AutoGuardian By SmartCone is expanding our operations and are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic professionals to take a front seat in paving the way for Intelligent Mobility to create healthier, happier, sustainable cities. Our autonomous shuttle operators utilize proprietary software and hardware to operate an autonomous vehicle along a pre-determined route, providing valuable feedback to the operations group to further advance R&D. In this role, you will interact with various stakeholders and educate them on autonomous vehicle technologies, intelligent infrastructure and the future of mobility.


About You

  • You are tech-savvy and have a good understanding of the role of new technology in the transportation space

  • You have outstanding customer service skills, are enthusiastic and personable.

  • You are responsible, reliable and detail oriented

  • You are able to work independently or in small groups and for extended periods of time without direct supervision

  • Interest in emerging technology

  • You have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage/diffuse difficult situations

  • You are flexible and willing to work different shifts including weekends and holidays

  • You live in or nearby Toronto or Region of Durham (hiring for multiple projects)

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for operational integrity of multiple autonomous vehicles

  • Communicate with passengers onboard our shuttles to serve as an ambassador of the AV technology and infrastructure to include the route served

  • Confidence operating equipment with a joystick or video game controller

  • Quick study with the ability to understand, and keep current on, operational requirements of the autonomous shuttle

  • Perform vehicle inspections pre- and post- shift to ensure the safety of daily operations

  • Track, report, and troubleshoot shuttle performance

  • Monitoring the driving environment via object and event detection, recognition, classification, and response preparation

  • Object and event response execution

  • Ensure the readiness and cleanliness of vehicles, equipment, and the workplace

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to quickly grasp unsafe driving situations in order to take over driving autonomous vehicles

  • Required to study and pass extensive training course from the Autonomous Shuttle OEM that includes online and in person training (estimated 60-80hours)

  • Troubleshooting skills to research and determine causes of unexpected issues

  • Proficient in computer software applications like Google doc, Excel, PowerPoint and Word

  • Effective verbal communication skills in front of small groups

  • Must enjoy being a team player and interacting with the operational team and our customers

  • Professional appearance and a great attitude

  • Accountability, with the extensive training provided, we rely on our ambassadors to show up to work every day as replacements are limited.

  • Must have a clean driving record (no moving violations or at-fault accidents in the last 3 years) with current ON driver's license (minimum 5 years’ experience)

  • Ability to stand for long periods to perform essential job functions

  • Must be able to pass background and reference checks

  • Weekend hours and holidays will be required

  • Must regularly lift and carry small packages around 10 lbs.

  • May occasionally lift and carry boxes of supplies and/or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
